Ubuntu 12.04 LTS now available on all our servers!

25 April 2012 | by Chris Merrett

Good news for fans of everyone's favourite animal-themed flavour of Linux! (that was a mouthful).

We're going to be one of the first hosting companies to offer Ubuntu 12.04 with Long-Term Support (LTS) "Precise Pangolin" on the day of release - which is today (26 April)!

Usually, it takes most hosting companies a few days at best to offer the new version. But Ubuntu 12.04 LTS has been successfully tested with our servers and internal deployment systems - so the moment it's released to the public, you'll be able to have it installed as standard on our range of dedicated and cloud servers. Our managed services customers can also ask about upgrading their installation to take advantage of the new features and enhanced security that the new OS will bring.

At the same time, we're offering Precise Pangolin as a pre-installed template on Serverlove which is a great way to rapidly test your application for compatibility, or create a production server running with the latest updates. Just sign-up for a Serverlove account (with free £15 credit!) and choose Ubuntu 12.04 LTS from the drop-down list.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is the first long-term support release since April 2010 and will be supported for a full five years on both desktop and server by Canonical. This means you'll get better stability for your applications and a guarantee that investing in Ubuntu will be a decision that's supported in the long run.

Want to get Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for your desktop or home server? We're also mirroring the official download files. Download them now from our high-speed Manchester-based mirrors.

We're strongly recommending that all customers using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS should upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as it'll bring a fresh stable kernel, enhanced security, improved boot times, better power management and, of course, an extended support lifecycle. If you're an existing customer, drop us a line through the support portal about upgrading.
