IP Transit - Billing Methods and Pricing

As a wholesale offering, IP Transit is offered in CDR or capped per-Mbps style billing for rackspace and IP Transit customers.

Committed Data Rate (Capped)

Committed Data Rate (CDR) with a cap is very similar to your office DSL connection, except it is the same speed in both directions.  Basically, you tell us how large you would like your connection to be, for example 2Mbps, and we will cap the connection to this speed.  It means you can use the connection as much as you'd like without incurring extra charges; however the maximum you would be able to throughput would always be fixed to the limit you specify.

We can increase the limit at short notice if demand for your service rises.

Capped connections are provisioned at a minimum of 10Mbps and are at a contention rate of 1:1, i.e. the entire commitment is guaranteed to be available for 100% of the month.

Commitment
Total Price per month
10Mbps £400.00
20Mbps £700.00
30Mbps £960.00
40Mbps £1240.00
50Mbps £1500.00
60Mbps+ price upon request

Method 2b - Committed Data Rate (Burstable)

Similar to the above, except instead of the connection being fixed, burst is allowed.  So you may ask for a 1Mbps commitment on a 100Mbps port for example.  We then use industry standard 95th Percentile billing calculations to work out any overage charges as follows:

Bandwidth usage from your switch port is sampled at regular intervals, and logged on our system.  The top 5% of bandwidth usage for the month is disregarded (roughly 36 hours), the 95th percentile remaining is used as the figure on which you are billed.  So if this figure is higher than your commitment, you will be billed for the excess at our price-list rate.

Burstable connections are provisioned at a minimum of 1Mbps and are at a contention rate of 1:1, i.e. your entire commitment is guaranteed to be available for 100% of the month. Burst is not guaranteed and is charged at 10% over your CDR rate.

Commitment
Price per Mbit
Port Speed
1Mbps £70.00 10Mbps
2Mbps - 4Mbps £60.00 10Mbps

20Mbps - 29Mbps £35.00 100Mbps

Setup charges

We have no setup charge for bandwidth, however we do charge for cabling in our own facilities, at £55.00 per cable.

If you are connecting to us in a non-Melbourne facility, then you will be responsible for the 'tail-circuit' to our cabinet, which may incur a charge from the datacentre operator.

IP Addresses

IP Addresses are allocated in netblocks of suitable sizes according to the customer's requirements, and in line with RIPE guidelines.

There is no charge for IP addresses allocated from our range.

PI Space and/or BGP

Customers wishing to have PI space obtained through our RIPE membership will be charged a £250 admin charge to cover our time in helping with the requests, and configuring our routers.

Customers wishing to connect to Melbourne by BGP, either through their own AS or from PI space, will incur a £250 admin charge to cover our time in setting up the router configuration.
